Mr. Kruska,
We had fantastic weather for our FAA event. Due to scheduling conflicts
with work we held our event Friday, 11 November. We were able to place our
flags prior to the Veteran's Day ceremony. Once again we ran into a severe
shortage of flags, the 800 we placed only allowed us to recognize
approximately half the Coasties at the cemetery. I had sent the additional
money I had set aside to purchase additional flags to the Mutual
Assistance Fund.
We hold our event at the BG William C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetary,
Wrightstown, New Jersey. My wife, Jamie, oldest son Karl Jr., daughter,
Gianna, and youngest son, Dylan, assisted me with the placement of the
flags.
I have attached some photos of the kids placing the flags.

As the sun sets on
another Veterans Day and FAA #5, the words of BM2 Steve Kurkowski live on.
"It was an important reason to be there. There were rows and rows of white
grave markers and every now and then, there was this lone Coast Guard
flag. It was making a statement. Here lies a Coast Guard veteran -- a
hero, not forgotten, not today, not this year -- not ever again." -- BM2
Steve Kurkowski, USCGR(Ret.), USCG FAA Milwaukee chapter Rep. Nov. 10,
2001
It was flags, flags
everywhere at Coast Guard Hill during the 5th annual USCG Flags Across
America event at Arlington National Cemetery Nov. 8. SCPO Ann Tubbs, left,
and SCPO Mark Allen hold the Coast Guard Reserve flag as the symbolism is
explained to the crowd. The event is sponsored each year by the DC Chief
Petty Officers Association.
